Cartoons

On the Air

Justice League

Synopsis: Just imagine some of the biggest heroes in the DC universe: The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, and Batman all together in one show battling the forces of evil every week and then you'd have some kind of idea of what Justice League is all about. What force on Earth could possibly stop these superheroes? Well the creators manage to come up with villians of epic size each week.

My Take: I actually heard about this show about a year before the first episode aired. Needless to say I was very excited about it, especially since the guys who did the Batman and Superman series were going to be doing this one too. I mean how often do you get to see this much star power in one show. Following in the tradition of Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS and Batman Beyond, Justice League has proven to be an awesome cartoon. Simply put most of the fight scenes are nicely done and the color schemes are brighter, a welcome change from the darker tones from Batman Beyond. However the only drawback is that each storyline is multipart meaning that it takes two episodes to do one story, so if you miss one episode you have to wait around again for reruns. Other than that Justice League is a pretty damn good cartoon and definitely worth checking out.

Cowboy Bebop

Synopsis: Cowboy Bebop tracks the exploits of a "gang" of futuristic bounty hunters, otherwise known as "cowboys." The year is 2071 and with gate technology opening up space travel to the human race the planets beyond the Earth are the new Wild West, complete with outlaws running rampant. The crew of the Bebop tracks down those bounty heads that the police can't get, for money to survive. It's a story of action, adventure, mystery, and humor.

My Take: Arguably one of the best anime series in a long time, Cowboy Bebop brings together a lot of great qualities for an animated show such as, plot, animation, and music just takes them up a notch, especially in the last department. From start to finish each show is just jam packed with all of this, especially the music. The music is such a key part to this show that the sound track for the entire series is available on three CDs. Whether it's the show's jazz induced intro, a high octane instrumental fight scene, or an emotional flashback piano solo, this show has the right music for the right occasion-and all of it's good too! The only kind of bad thing I have to say about this show is that it's short (26 episodes in all). In any case Cowboy Bebop is a damn good show that I could definitely watch over and over again. You should too.

X-Men Evolution

Synopsis: The story of the X-Men revisited, only this time they are younger and only starting to develop their powers. This version tells the story of how they come together, their struggle with their new powers, and the emergence of other evil mutants.

My Take: At first glance this just might seem to be a revamp of the previous X-Men series. However after watching it, it indeed is a different cartoon. Will it be different enough to survive? Who knows? As for myself, it's a decent enough show. The stories are interesting and how they come together makes for a nice intro into the series. The only thing I don't like about it, is the fact that it takes a page from it's predecessor and replays all of it's episodes over and over again. However, now going into it's 3rd season this show is definitely getting interesting. It now shows lots of promise with the addition of new characters and scenarios.
